Motorists in Ahmedabad may soon have to pay higher parking fees as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) moves to revise charges for on-street and off-street parking facilities. The Town Planning Committee has approved revised rates for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers and medium and heavy vehicles.
Under the proposed revision, the parking fee for two-wheelers during the first hour will increase from ₹5 to ₹10. For four-wheelers, the charge will rise from ₹15 to ₹20 for the same duration.
New parking rates approved by Town Planning Committee
A report on the proposed hike was published by Gujarat Samachar Digital on October 10. Following the Town Planning Committee’s approval, the proposal will now be placed before the Standing Committee and the General Assembly for consideration.
If it receives approval at both stages, the revised charges are likely to come into effect in December.
The Town Planning Committee chairman said the proposal was initially submitted by the municipal commissioner. However, the committee made changes to the suggested rates before approving the revised structure.
The new charges are proposed to apply to on-street and off-street parking facilities, multi-level parking facilities and parking lots operated by the corporation.
Revised parking charges for two-wheelers
While the first-hour fee has been doubled, the committee has approved lower rates for longer parking durations than those originally proposed by the municipal commissioner.
The revised two-wheeler charges are:
- Up to one hour: ₹10 (earlier ₹5)
- One to three hours: ₹15 (proposed earlier at ₹20)
- Three to six hours: ₹25 (proposed earlier at ₹35)
- Six to 12 hours: ₹40 (proposed earlier at ₹50)
- 12 to 24 hours: ₹55 (proposed earlier at ₹70)
Four-wheeler parking charges revised
For four-wheelers, the first-hour parking fee will increase from ₹15 to ₹20. The proposed rates for longer durations are:
- Up to one hour: ₹20
- One to two hours: ₹40
- Three to six hours: ₹80
- Six to 12 hours: ₹120
- 12 to 24 hours: ₹170
The revised parking structure will come into force only after approval by the Standing Committee and the General Assembly.
