Ahmedabad’s Solid Waste Management Department has taken decisive action against commercial establishments violating public health and cleanliness norms. Among the sealed units is Honest Restaurant, situated on Commerce Six Roads in Navrangpura.
This enforcement drive, spanning three days, targeted a total of 20 businesses across the West Zone. Inspections were conducted both day and night, revealing widespread non-compliance with local regulations.
According to an AMC press release, the initiative aimed to curb littering, curb the selling of banned plastic items, and ensure that establishments provided adequate waste disposal options. The actions fell under the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations (GPMC) Act along with Public Health Bylaws.
During this crackdown, officials inspected 239 units. They issued notices to 153 establishments for various violations tied to littering and prohibited plastic use. In total, authorities seized about 23.1 kg of illegal plastic products during these operations.
The financial impact is significant; the AMC collected administrative charges totaling Rs 2.67 lakh from these actions. Of this amount, Rs 1.24 lakh stemmed from fines related specifically to banned plastic usage while Rs 1.43 lakh was collected for other public nuisance violations.
The sealed list includes diverse businesses such as automobile shops, printing services, hotels, tea stalls, and paan parlours scattered across areas like Naranpura and Sabarmati.
- Notable mentions include Hotel Swell on Drive-In Road
- New Lucky Motors near Mithakhali Six Roads
The AMC has committed to continuing enforcement efforts against those failing to meet cleanliness standards in upcoming days. Alongside punitive measures, awareness campaigns are being rolled out to educate residents on proper waste segregation practices.
