The Gujarat government has decided to add official round seals and details of the issuing authority to certificates and attestations issued through digital portals. The move aims to save citizens time and effort by eliminating the need to visit government offices separately to get their digital documents stamped.
According to a circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on October 21, 2026, the government will take the necessary steps to incorporate official seals and relevant office details into digitally issued documents in accordance with existing laws, rules and instructions.
Currently, digital certificates obtained through online portals do not carry the official round seal of the issuing authority in certain cases. As a result, applicants often have to visit the concerned government office to get the documents stamped. The new arrangement aims to remove this additional step and reduce delays.
Initiative Under Digital Gujarat 2.0
The decision is part of the Gujarat government’s efforts to simplify public services under its Digital Gujarat 2.0 initiative. The government has been undertaking Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) and Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) to make commonly used public services more efficient.
Under the proposed system, digitally issued certificates will display the official seal and details of the competent authority that approved them. The initiative is intended to promote digital services, reduce paperwork and make government services more accessible.
How Citizens Will Benefit
The changes are expected to reduce unnecessary visits to government offices for certificate stamping, saving applicants time, travel expenses and effort.
Displaying the official seal and issuing authority’s details directly on digital documents will also help citizens identify the source of their certificates more easily.
Departments to Coordinate for Implementation
According to the GAD circular, the concerned departments will coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology to implement the changes.
Once the necessary departmental procedures are completed, technical modifications will be made to the relevant digital portals to introduce the facility.
The initiative aims to simplify the process of obtaining and using digital certificates while reducing additional administrative formalities for citizens.
