Solaris Public School in Ahmedabad has been fined ₹10,000 by the city District Education Officer (DEO) for failing to enter 54 students admitted under the Right to Education (RTE) Act on the mandatory RTE portal. Due to the school’s negligence, the students were deprived of government financial assistance of ₹3,000 each.
Every year, the government provides ₹3,000 in financial assistance to eligible children admitted under the RTE quota. However, schools must enter the students’ details on the RTE DBMS portal to ensure they receive the benefit.
Parent’s Complaint Reveals Lapse
The issue came to light after a parent complained that students at Solaris Public School were not receiving the assistance. An investigation found that the school had failed to register 54 RTE students from different classes on the portal.
More than 80,000 RTE students received financial assistance of ₹3,000 each this year. However, the 54 students at Solaris Public School were left out because of the school’s failure to complete the mandatory entries.
School Directed to Complete Entries
Taking action under the provisions of the RTE Act, the Ahmedabad city DEO imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the school. The authorities have also directed the school to enter the details of all 54 students on the portal.
The students will be eligible to receive the financial assistance once the required entries are completed. The incident has raised concerns about schools’ responsibility to ensure that eligible students receive government benefits on time.
