Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has greenlit the creation of four new medical colleges across different districts, aiming to boost healthcare and education. These colleges will be built by upgrading existing government hospitals through a public-private partnership model.
The initiative will see Shri Gayaprasad Jain Charitable Trust set up a facility in Kheda district. Meanwhile, Mahisagar district will benefit from the efforts of Swaminarayan Vishwamangal Gurukul, linked to Swaminarayan University. In Gir Somnath, the Shri Chanakya Education and Charitable Trust will lead the project, while Delta Millennium Medicare Private Limited will develop the college in Botad.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya emphasized that this move is designed to enhance access to modern medical services within these districts. It also aims to increase the number of specialist doctors available at local government hospitals.
Each institution must maintain existing free healthcare services and provide complimentary treatment for pregnant women as well as children aged between 20 days and one year. Additionally, they’re required to establish dialysis units with at least ten beds and offer immediate care free of charge for trauma patients.
A Patient Welfare Committee will be formed under each district collector’s guidance to manage patient-centered services effectively. This effort is expected not only to strengthen healthcare infrastructure but also expand local medical education opportunities.
