An IIT graduate’s social media post seeking immediate employment and temporary accommodation has gone viral after the individual claimed that their father had asked them to leave home, leaving them with enough money to manage for only two to three days.
The graduate said they are urgently looking for a job, a place to stay and an opportunity to become financially independent. The appeal was posted on Reddit’s r/FresherTechJobsIndia with the title, “Does anyone need a live in maid? IIT graduate looking for a job + temporary shelter in Hyderabad, willing to start immediately.”
Describing the situation in the post, the graduate said it was not the start to their professional life they had expected after graduating from an IIT. They claimed to have “very limited cash left” and said they realistically had funds to last only “2-3 days”. The individual added that, if an opportunity did not come through soon, they were considering travelling to Hyderabad and trying to rebuild from there.
The graduate also raised concerns about accommodation, saying they were trying to avoid having “living at a bus stand” become their first post-graduation accommodation.
According to the Reddit post, the individual holds a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialisation in Manufacturing Science & Engineering. Despite the immediate financial pressure, they said they were willing to take up different kinds of roles instead of waiting for an ideal position.
Their stated areas of experience include manufacturing, operations and industrial engineering, data and business analytics, CAD, CAE, FEA, research, technical work and technical writing. They also mentioned skills in Excel, analytical problem-solving and documentation, while saying they were currently learning Python, Pandas and SQL to transition towards analytics-related roles.
The graduate further claimed to have internship and project experience in aerospace manufacturing. Their work reportedly included identifying machining bottlenecks, process optimisation, capacity planning, fixtures and tooling, as well as efforts to reduce manufacturing lead times. Their academic and project work, according to the post, included FEA, CAD, manufacturing systems and ESG/BRSR analytics.
However, the graduate stressed that securing an immediate source of income was more important than finding an ideal career opportunity. “I am NOT looking for a dream job right now. I need a foot in the door,” they wrote, adding that they were ready to learn, relocate and join immediately.
The post sought leads for engineering, analyst, operations, manufacturing, research, technical support and technical writing positions. The graduate listed Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Pune as preferred locations but said they were open to opportunities anywhere in India. They also appealed for suggestions regarding safe and affordable temporary accommodation in Hyderabad.
The post attracted responses from other Reddit users, with some discussing the employment difficulties faced by graduates from premier institutes. One user commented, “Bro how r IITians not getting jobs n all?”
Another Reddit user, who said they were also a dual-degree IIT graduate, responded that they were looking for similar work and asked to be referred if an opportunity was found. The user said they had a background in Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science, along with machine-learning research internships, research papers and projects involving AI agents, computer vision and machine learning. They said they were open to AI/ML engineering, internships and research roles, while acknowledging that they were overqualified for maid-related work.
