A CNG-powered car exploded while it was being refuelled at a CNG station on National Highway-48 near Karjan in Gujarat, triggering panic at the fuel station and leaving the vehicle severely damaged. The incident took place on October 1, according to reports.
The blast occurred while a CNG nozzle was connected to the vehicle. The force of the explosion ripped apart the rear and middle portions of the car, with pieces of metal and shattered glass thrown across the area. Two other vehicles parked nearby were also damaged in the incident. Reports said the CNG tank was split apart in the blast.
The incident prompted an immediate response from the fire brigade and police teams. The CNG section of the station was shut following the incident as authorities began examining the circumstances that led to the explosion. CCTV footage from the fuel station has also surfaced, capturing the moment of the blast.
The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been established. Preliminary reports have pointed towards a possible technical fault, gas leakage or pressure-related issue involving the vehicle’s CNG system. Officials are expected to determine the precise cause after examining the vehicle, CNG tank and refuelling equipment.
The incident has also raised questions over safety measures during CNG refuelling and the condition of vehicle-mounted CNG systems. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
