The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is revising land requirements for bus depots and stations as it moves towards developing them as broader transport hubs.
The revised norms include provisions for parking, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, drop-off areas, connectivity zones and children’s play areas. Population, passenger footfall, education levels and future growth will also be considered while deciding the size and location of bus facilities.
Under the new norms, 10,000–12,000 square metres of land will be required for control-point bus stations in new talukas, important locations, pilgrimage and tourist destinations, and areas outside cities.
A depot-level bus station and a depot-cum-workshop will each require 12,000–15,000 square metres, while a pick-up stand will need 500–1,000 square metres. Land for divisional offices, ministerial offices and staff quarters will be allotted based on requirements and availability.
The revised plan also provides for EV charging stations and solar parks to be integrated with facilities located along highways.
