The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and city police will jointly conduct surprise food-quality checks at garba venues, food stalls and eateries during the nine-day festival.
AMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani told Mirror that dedicated teams will inspect food outlets at and around garba venues, including restaurants and snack stalls operating late at night.
“We have formed teams of five food inspectors who, along with police, will conduct food-quality checks in and at garba venues, as well as restaurants and snack stalls that remain open till late night,” Pani said.
The teams will be equipped with instant food-testing kits to check food quality on the spot. Pani said strict action would be taken against those found selling adulterated food.
Each inspection team will include five AMC food inspectors and three police personnel. Garba venues and food stalls will be inspected, while late-night restaurants and snack outlets outside the venues will also be covered.
Officials may also use decoy customers to purchase food from outlets and have it tested as part of the checks.
