The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced its ‘Clean Navratri’ competition for the second consecutive year to encourage societies and Garba organisers to focus on cleanliness, waste management and environment-friendly arrangements during Navratri.
The city-level first prize for collective Garba organisers is ₹1 lakh, while the winning society will receive ₹51,000.
Societies and collective Garba organisers interested in participating will have to submit an offline application through the public health officer of their respective areas. Committees formed by the AMC’s Solid Waste Management Department will then visit the venues and inspect the arrangements.
According to the Solid Waste Management Department, the competition aims to promote the concept of zero waste and create awareness about cleanliness during Navratri. Organisers will be assessed on arrangements such as adequate dustbins, Nirmalya collection, food-waste management, proper waste disposal, avoiding single-use plastic and providing public toilets.
A total of 100 marks will be awarded based on various criteria. Overall cleanliness will carry 30 marks, while other categories will carry between 5 and 15 marks each.
