The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has identified nine municipal plots near Metro stations for developing pay-and-park facilities, with a combined capacity of around 5,903 two-wheelers and 246 cars.
The proposal is likely to be placed before the AMC Standing Committee this week. The move aims to address parking problems around Metro stations and encourage commuters to use public transport.
Five of the identified plots are in western Ahmedabad and four are in the eastern part of the city. The proposed sites are near Thaltej Gam, Gandhigram, Vadaj, Sabarmati, Vastral, Nirant Cross Road and Apparel Park Metro stations.
The AMC plans to operate the parking facilities under a revenue-sharing model, with users paying parking charges. CCTV cameras will also be installed at the entry and exit points.
The civic body is separately identifying 17 more plots for a second phase of parking facilities near Metro stations.
The move comes after the AMC discontinued its feeder bus service connecting residential areas to Metro stations due to a poor response. Officials said parking shortages and the limited availability of suitable municipal land have been major challenges in improving last-mile connectivity.
