Mosquitoes and unclean conditions have reportedly been found at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run LG Hospital amid the city’s mosquito-control campaign. Dirt, mosquitoes and dirty bedsheets were reportedly seen at night in the gynaecology ward and two other wards in the hospital’s old building.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Rajesh T. Soni visited the hospital at night and raised concerns over the conditions. He alleged that mosquito infestation and poor cleanliness were found in the wards, including the gynaecology ward where women patients are undergoing treatment.
Soni said patients should be provided with a clean and mosquito-free environment and demanded regular cleaning, clean bedsheets, pest-control measures and more effective fogging.
Hospital cites nearby construction
LG Hospital Superintendent said the hospital is cleaned daily and fogging is carried out outside the wards. According to the hospital administration, mosquito activity has increased because of construction of a new building next to the hospital.
The superintendent also said a dustbin has been placed near the ward, but some people throw waste outside it, which could contribute to mosquito breeding.
The issue has also raised questions about whether action will be taken against the nearby construction site if it is found to be contributing to mosquito infestation, as the civic body takes action against other sites for mosquito breeding and poor sanitation.
