Gujarat has integrated the fire emergency helpline 101 with the unified 112 emergency response system, bringing fire services under the same number used for police, medical, women and child-related emergencies.
The integration was rolled out on Wednesday in the first phase across six municipal corporations — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar.
A senior EMRI official said fire-related calls were earlier received through 101 and handled by city-level control rooms, with details often being shared manually. Under the new system, fire emergencies will be routed through 112, allowing the response to be digitally tracked.
The system will track the dispatch of fire vehicles, their arrival at the incident location, completion of the response and return of the vehicle.
Officials said the first phase currently covers 237 fire and rescue vehicles across the six cities.
