A timely response by Ahmedabad traffic police helped a pregnant woman safely deliver her baby in a rickshaw near the Sukhramnagar intersection in Gomtipur on September 22.
The woman was travelling in the rickshaw with her mother when she suddenly developed severe labour pains. Traffic police personnel regulating traffic near the intersection noticed the situation and immediately called the 108 emergency service.
Delivery carried out inside rickshaw
The 108 medical team reached the spot and, after examining the woman, said there was not enough time to take her to the hospital and that the delivery had to be conducted immediately.
Following the medical team’s advice, traffic police personnel covered the rickshaw with a sheet to create privacy on the roadside. With the help of the medical staff and a woman police constable, the woman safely delivered the baby inside the rickshaw.
After the delivery, the mother and newborn were given first aid and shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
