Private jet and helicopter bookings have increased sharply in Ahmedabad, with around 200 charter aircraft movements recorded at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport every month. Demand for private aircraft has reportedly doubled over the past five years, with not only business groups but also families and senior citizens using the service.
Growing demand for charter aircraft
Private jet travel, once seen mainly in movies and associated with the wealthy, is becoming more accessible to middle- and upper-income groups. Demand rises particularly during major religious events such as the Kumbh Mela, when aircraft bookings can see waiting periods. Private aircraft movements also increase during major events such as IPL matches and concerts.
Aircraft fares and handling charges
A private aircraft landing at Ahmedabad airport can attract ground-handling charges of around Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh. The cost of chartering an aircraft to destinations such as Somnath or Dwarka is approximately Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, depending on the aircraft and other factors.Helicopter charter services generally cost between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh per hour.
Corporate and aviation companies
Large corporate groups such as Adani, Zydus, HN Safal and Nirma have their own helicopters or aircraft. Aviation companies including Ventura, Deus Air and Zest Aviation also provide charter services.Ahmedabad airport has around 20 aircraft and 12 parking stands available for private aviation.
