Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will be mandatory from October 1, 2026, for domestic LPG consumers who want to receive refills at the regulated price with applicable government subsidies.
The government said the move is aimed at ensuring that LPG subsidies reach genuine households, while preventing duplicate connections and the diversion of subsidised cooking gas for commercial use.
As of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total consumer base, had completed biometric authentication.
Consumers who have already completed the process will not face any interruption.Those who have not completed biometric verification will have their subsidised refill bookings temporarily stopped. Bookings will resume once the authentication process is completed.
How to Complete Aadhaar Authentication
Consumers can complete biometric e-KYC through several options:
During LPG delivery: Delivery staff can complete biometric verification using the oil companies’ mobile applications.
At LPG distributor showrooms: Consumers can visit their local distributor and complete biometric e-KYC.
Through mobile apps: Consumers can complete the process from home using:
- IndianOil ONE for Indane customers
- HelloBPCL for Bharatgas customers
- HP PAY for HP Gas customers

What Happens If You Do Not Complete Verification?
Consumers who do not complete biometric Aadhaar authentication will still be able to buy domestic LPG. However, they will need to register their choice through OMC digital platforms, including consumer portals, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbots or IVRS.Such consumers will receive LPG at the prevailing market price without government subsidy. The gas will be supplied in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to availability.
Several Deadline Extensions
The mandatory rollout follows several deadline extensions aimed at increasing coverage across the country. The original deadline of June 30, 2026, was extended several times, with the final deadline now set for October 1.Since October 2023, state-run oil marketing companies have carried out a nationwide awareness campaign. More than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp alerts have reportedly been sent, along with door-to-door follow-ups and special verification camps.
Why the Government Is Tightening Subsidy Checks
Domestic LPG is sold below its actual cost to protect consumers from fluctuations in international energy prices. The implicit subsidy was around ₹210 per 14.2 kg cylinder in September 2026, compared with ₹721 per cylinder in June 2026.The Centre provided oil marketing companies with ₹22,000 crore in compensation in 2022-23 and is releasing another ₹30,000 crore for 2025-26 and 2026-27.
As of August 31, 2026, the accumulated under-recoveries of public-sector oil marketing companies on domestic LPG had crossed ₹62,000 crore.Consumers needing help with biometric verification can contact the national toll-free helpline at 1800 2333 555.
