Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation’s Health and Food Department recently imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on Zepto Limited after officials found expired food items in the company’s dark store located in the Jalaram Society area of Gorat.
Acting on complaints from local residents, food safety inspectors conducted a surprise inspection. They discovered around 60 litres of expired Sumul buttermilk along with stale bread packets that were apparently set for delivery to customers.
The officials seized the unfit food products and destroyed them immediately to prevent any health risks to consumers. A show-cause notice has also been issued to Zepto’s management, demanding an explanation for the violations related to food storage and sanitation at their facility.
This incident raises concerns amid increasing scrutiny over quick-commerce platforms like Zepto regarding their adherence to food quality and hygiene standards.
