The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) on Thursday conducted a special inspection drive at 151 hostels and canteens across the state and issued improvement notices to 33 operators.
The drive was launched following a recent food poisoning incident at a hostel in Surat.
According to the FDCA, inspections were carried out at 25 government, 20 semi-government and 106 private hostels and canteens until 6 pm. Officials also collected 23 food samples for testing.
Improvement notices were issued to operators where officials found deficiencies related to hygiene, food safety and food quality. The operators have been directed to take corrective measures, the FDCA said.
