Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller ‘Daayra’, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, released in theatres on September 18. Inspired by true events, the film explores crime, justice, accountability and the boundaries of the law.
Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, a special investigation officer who follows due legal process, while Prithviraj portrays DCP Raman Kumar, a police officer with a different approach to delivering justice. The story centres on a controversial case that puts the two officers on opposing sides and explores the conflict between following procedure and seeking justice.
The film also features Kanwaljeet Singh, Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar in important roles. Kanwaljeet Singh plays Ajooni’s father, a retired judge, adding another layer to the protagonist’s relationship with the legal system.
Written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar, ‘Daayra’ is produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. The film marks the first collaboration between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, with the story focusing on questions of truth, justice and accountability.
