India has emerged victorious in the Women’s Asia Cup final, defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs. The match took place on Sunday in Dubai, where India showcased a commanding performance to secure their record-extending eighth title.
The Indian openers set the tone for the game, as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma formed a remarkable partnership, scoring 129 runs together. Shafali was particularly impressive, reaching her fifty in just 24 balls and finishing with a total of 68 runs off 39 deliveries. Mandhana also shined, completing her half-century in 35 balls before getting run out at 59 runs.
With a total of 183 runs for five wickets, India put pressure on Sri Lanka from the outset. In response, Sri Lanka struggled against India’s bowling attack. Shree Charani was standout player with four wickets while Deepti Sharma contributed three crucial wickets.
This victory marks an important redemption for India after they lost to Sri Lanka in the previous final back in 2024. With this win, they’ve not only avenged that defeat but also solidified their legacy in women’s cricket.
