The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is taking a unique approach to tackling plastic waste. From September 12 to 14, the AMC’s Solid Waste Management Department is encouraging residents to exchange clean, segregated plastic for cow-dung Ganesh idols.
This four-day initiative, running from 11 AM to 6 PM each day—including the weekend—allows the first 100 participants at each of the city’s seven zones to receive an idol in return for their contributions. The campaign is branded as “Bring Your Plastic Waste, Receive Bappa’s Blessings.”
Officials emphasize that this effort aims not only to provide a festive alternative but also promotes responsible disposal practices and highlights the importance of waste segregation among citizens. “We want people to see their role in managing waste,” an official noted.
