The Gujarat government has proposed a fine of up to ₹15 lakh and imprisonment of up to two years for running an unregistered school.The proposed rules also include strict penalties for unauthorised appointments of staff and for shutting down schools without following the prescribed procedures.
The provisions are part of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which is expected to be tabled during the ongoing monsoon session of the state Assembly.
The amendments will be made to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Act, 1972.
