The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids to construct an interchange at the starting point of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, where it connects with the Sardar Patel Ring Road (SPRR) in Ahmedabad.The junction currently has a circle, which could turn into a traffic bottleneck as traffic on the newly developed expressway increases.
₹124.40-Crore Project
The interchange project has an estimated cost of ₹124.40 crore, excluding GST, and will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.According to the NHAI tender notice, the project is to be completed within 18 months. The maintenance period has been fixed at 10 years. Bids are scheduled to be opened on October 23, 2026.
Dedicated Ramps Planned
The proposed interchange will have dedicated ramps and service roads to ensure smoother movement between the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the SPRR.As per the plan, Ramp-1 will connect Bakrol towards Dholera, while Ramp-2 will connect Dholera towards Sanathal. Service roads are also planned on both sides of the interchange.The layout is expected to improve connectivity between the expressway and the existing ring road network while reducing the possibility of congestion at the junction.
Expressway Cuts Ahmedabad-Dholera Travel Time
The 109.019-km Ahmedabad-Dholera Greenfield Expressway (NE-8), inaugurated earlier this year, has strengthened connectivity between Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar and the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).Built at a cost of ₹5,800 crore, the expressway has reduced travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera to around 45 minutes. It has also improved access to the upcoming Dholera International Airport and is expected to support investment and economic activity in the region.
Focus on Sustainable Infrastructure
The expressway was developed with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Around 60 lakh metric tonnes of municipal waste and 22 lakh metric tonnes of fly ash were reused during its construction, along with extensive plantation work.The proposed interchange is expected to further improve traffic flow and connectivity, supporting the region’s growing infrastructure and economic development.
