Samsung Electronics has begun a phased round of layoffs in India as weaker consumer demand and pressure on margins affect its consumer electronics business.
Around 80-100 executives working in the company’s television and home appliance divisions have reportedly been asked to leave so far. The job cuts are being carried out in batches and are understood to have affected employees across different levels of the organisation.
The restructuring comes at a time when Samsung is facing rising component costs and subdued demand in the Indian market. Higher memory chip prices have increased input costs, putting additional pressure on margins in the company’s electronics business.
