Western Railway has decided to convert the Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli weekly special train into a regular Express service, improving long-distance connectivity between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
The existing Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli–Ahmedabad Special, operating as train numbers 09419/09420, will be regularised as train numbers 19419/19420 Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli–Ahmedabad Weekly Express from September 24, 2026.The regular service is expected to offer passengers lower fares than the special train, a fixed timetable, easier advance bookings and greater certainty while planning journeys.
Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli Express scheduleTrain 19419 will depart Ahmedabad at 9.20 am every Thursday and reach Tiruchirappalli at 3.35 am on Saturday. The return train, 19420, will leave Tiruchirappalli at 5.45 am every Sunday and arrive in Ahmedabad at 9.15 pm on Monday. The return service will commence from September 27.
The train will connect Gujarat with several cities across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Major halts will include Vadodara, Surat, Valsad, Vapi, Vasai Road, Kalyan, Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Mantralayam, Guntakal, Kadapa, Renigunta, Chennai, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur, among others.The weekly Express will have AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper and General Class coaches.
The regularisation is expected to provide passengers travelling between Ahmedabad and South India with a more economical, predictable and convenient travel option.
