Surat police have arrested five people, including a delivery executive, for allegedly stealing high-value electronic products worth Rs 8.82 lakh from Amazon consignments and replacing them with dummy items before returning the packages to a warehouse.
According to an FIR registered at Pal police station on September 5, the main accused, Jay Virash, was working as a delivery executive for Amazon shipments through Intex Transportation Services Pvt Ltd.
The alleged fraud came to light on August 20, when the company received a suspicious notification from an Amazon warehouse in the Pal area. Officials then checked CCTV footage and examined consignments handled by Virash.During the investigation, officials allegedly found that a Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra 5G, worth Rs 2.04 lakh, had been removed from its packaging and replaced with a dummy handset before the package was returned to the warehouse.
The company subsequently checked other consignments handled by Virash and allegedly found similar discrepancies. These included two SanDisk Extreme 8TB Portable External SSDs, valued at Rs 1.86 lakh each, and an Apple iPhone 17 Pro 1TB, worth Rs 1.83 lakh. The original products were allegedly replaced with dummy items.
According to the complaint, on September 2, Virash took an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB, worth Rs 1.22 lakh, out for delivery. However, the company did not receive the OTP confirming delivery, and the consignment was allegedly not returned.Police said the total value of the five consignments mentioned in the complaint was Rs 8.82 lakh.
The complainant alleged that Virash, who was responsible for delivering the products to customers within the stipulated time, opened the consignments, removed the original products, replaced them with dummy items and kept the actual goods.
The other four accused arrested in the case were identified as Niraj Kushwaha, Vivek Khatik, Vikas Khatik and Nikhil Moradiya. Police alleged that the accused had conspired to swap the high-value electronic products.A case has been registered under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
