The discovery of liquor bottles at Ahmedabad’s Nikol Oxygen Park has raised concerns over alleged late-night gatherings by anti-social elements and possible lapses in security at the public facility.
Alleged Entry Through Food Court
According to complaints, some people are allegedly entering the park at night by tearing the cloth covering of an adjoining food court. Local residents suspect that the premises may be being used for drinking and other activities after dark.
The discovery of liquor bottles has sparked concern among residents, particularly as the Oxygen Park was developed as a public facility.
Questions Over Security
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has deployed security guards at gardens and Oxygen Parks across the city. The presence of liquor bottles has now raised questions over how outsiders are accessing the Nikol park despite the security arrangements.
Residents have demanded an inquiry into whether security guards are deployed during night hours and whether regular inspections are being conducted.
AMC Promises Compound Wall
A civic official said tree plantation work at the Oxygen Park was carried out with public participation. The AMC will now construct a compound wall around the site to strengthen security.
The official added that the corporation would verify whether security guards had been deployed at the park. If any negligence is found in the security arrangements, appropriate action will be taken.
Garden Department Monitoring Questioned
The incident has also raised questions about monitoring by the AMC Garden Department. There are allegations that officials do not regularly inspect such sites and that action is often taken only after videos emerge on social media or complaints are received from residents.
The latest incident has consequently put both the security arrangements at Nikol Oxygen Park and the AMC Garden Department’s monitoring mechanism under scrutiny.
