The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced 280 on-street smart flap parking slots on CG Road between Stadium Cross Road and Panchvati Cross Road to regulate parking and curb unauthorised parking.
The facility is currently available only for four-wheelers. Under the system, vehicles parked in designated slots trigger a sensor-based automated flap barrier that rises and locks the vehicle in place. Parking time is recorded automatically when the vehicle is removed.
To exit, motorists must scan the QR code and pay the parking fee through UPI or other digital payment methods. Once the payment is completed, the barrier automatically unlocks, allowing the vehicle to be taken out.
The AMC has clarified that cash payments will not be accepted. Officials and authorised agency staff operating the facility will carry identity cards and wear yellow T-shirts bearing the AMC logo. Citizens have been advised not to pay anyone demanding cash for parking and to report such incidents to the AMC helpline.
Two-wheelers are not allowed in the designated smart parking slots. Vehicles parked outside the marked slots or in no-parking areas may face penalties, including wheel-locking.
Parking charges
Four-wheeler owners will not be charged for the first five minutes. As per the Standing Committee resolution, parking will cost ₹20 per hour after the initial five-minute period. Vehicles parked for more than an hour will continue to be charged at ₹20 per additional hour.
Earlier system at South Bopal falls into disuse
Meanwhile, a similar smart parking system introduced near SoBo Centre in South Bopal has reportedly fallen into disuse. Vehicles are being parked randomly in the area, resulting in traffic congestion, particularly during evening hours.
An AMC official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the agency would shift the smart parking system installed at SoBo Centre to another location. The official said the agency would bear the associated costs and that the AMC had not made any payment for installing the system at SoBo Centre.

The AMC has also appealed to commercial establishments along the CG Road stretch to cooperate by ensuring that vehicles belonging to their customers and visitors are parked only in designated smart parking slots.
