Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Indians on the country’s latest GDP growth figures and urged citizens to make Swadeshi, ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Made in India’ part of their daily choices.
In a selfie-style video shared on Instagram, Modi highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent GDP growth and attributed the performance to the hard work, determination and collective strength of 140 crore Indians.
He said the growth was noteworthy as countries across the world continue to face wars, economic uncertainty and disruptions in global supply chains.The Prime Minister used the occasion to reiterate his push for Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Made in India’. He said greater self-reliance would help India move closer to its ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047.PM Modi Calls For ‘Weddings In India’Modi also appealed to Indians to keep more spending within the country instead of taking celebrations and leisure activities abroad.
He urged people to reconsider travelling overseas solely for leisure and discouraged organising weddings at foreign destinations when suitable options are available in India.Promoting the idea of ‘Weddings in India’, Modi said spending on such celebrations domestically would contribute to the Indian economy.The Prime Minister also made an appeal regarding gold purchases, asking people to avoid buying the precious metal unless it is genuinely necessary. “Unless necessary, do not buy gold,” Modi said.
‘Swadeshi’ Push Linked To Viksit Bharat Vision
Modi said greater reliance on Swadeshi products and self-reliance would strengthen his confidence that India could be handed over as a developed nation to the younger generation when the country completes 100 years of independence in 2047.The year 2047 marks both the centenary of India’s Independence and the target year for the government’s Viksit Bharat vision. The Prime Minister said the efforts being made today would help fulfil the aspirations of young Indians in the future. “Our hard work will fulfil youth’s dreams; let’s not hold back,” he said.
Modi also credited government policies and what he described as clear intentions for the country’s progress, while highlighting the role of India’s 140 crore citizens.
“Our policy is good, our intention is clear; that is why with the strength of 140 crore people, country is reaching new heights,” Modi said.
He concluded by calling on Indians to celebrate the country’s economic progress while continuing to work towards building a stronger, more self-reliant India.
