The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has directed sweets and farsan shops across the city to keep food testing kits on their premises, allowing customers to check the quality and purity of food products on the spot.
AMC Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel announced the directive, saying the kits can be used to test the purity of ingredients such as mawa and determine whether the foil used on sweets such as kaju katri is made of silver or aluminium.
Shopkeepers have been instructed to keep the testing kits readily available and ensure they are used properly. The AMC warned that establishments found involved in food adulteration or violating food safety regulations will face fines and other legal action.
Citizens can report food-quality complaints to the AMC through its food safety helpline, 155303.
1,100 Ahmedabad Hotels Asked to Install Kitchen CCTV Cameras
In a separate directive, around 1,100 hotels in Ahmedabad have been asked to install CCTV cameras in their kitchens.
The initiative aims to improve transparency by allowing citizens to have greater confidence in the hygiene and conditions under which their food is prepared.
Hotel operators have been instructed to install the cameras at suitable locations so that kitchen operations are clearly visible and complete the installation within the stipulated deadline.
