City police have identified and mapped more than 150 drug hotspots for the first time, using records of past arrests to locate areas where drug peddlers and traffickers have repeatedly been caught.
The move aims to disrupt the narcotics supply chain.A new anti-drug task force has also been formed to support the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG).
Five officers or personnel from each of the city’s 49 police stations will be part of the task force and will focus on the identified hotspots.The team will monitor these areas, track suspected drug peddlers and traffickers, and act on information about local drug supplies.
