Indian Railways has launched a nationwide special drive to inspect and clean drinking-water tanks, check purification systems and improve water facilities at railway stations, colonies and workplaces.
The initiative aims to address both immediate cleanliness issues and long-term gaps in railway drinking-water infrastructure. Railway authorities will inspect existing facilities, identify deficiencies and speed up work wherever repairs or upgrades are required.
Station-Wise Reports to Track Problems
Zonal Railways will prepare station-wise reports detailing the deficiencies found during inspections and the corrective action taken.
Officials will monitor issues such as damaged water tanks, leaking pipelines, faulty purification systems and poor hygiene around drinking-water points. The reporting system will also help track whether identified problems are resolved within the required timeframe.
Where additional infrastructure is found to be necessary, fresh proposals and sanctions will be processed to improve facilities.
Railway Colonies and Workplaces Included
The cleanliness and safety drive will also cover drinking-water facilities in railway colonies and workplaces used by employees and their families.
The broader plan focuses on monitoring water quality from the source to treatment, storage and distribution. Regular cleaning, testing and maintenance will form a key part of the initiative.
Railways said the drive is aimed at reducing contamination risks and ensuring that drinking-water facilities across the network remain clean, functional and safe for passengers and railway staff.
