The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Health and Food Department on Monday sealed a confectionery manufacturing unit in Hirawadi, Isanpur, after officials found it manufacturing lollipops under a retailer’s food licence and allegedly violating food safety norms.
During the inspection of Manan Food, located on GD High School Road in Hirawadi, officials found lollipops being produced in unhygienic conditions. The civic body seized around 1,500 kg of lollipop stock valued at approximately ₹4.5 lakh.
The unit, owned by Nareshbhai Ghanshyambhai Mangwani, was manufacturing mixed-flavour lollipops classified as sugar-boiled confectionery.
According to AMC officials, the premises had a retailer licence under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, even though the business was engaged in manufacturing activities.
Officials also reported several alleged violations of the hygiene requirements under Schedule 4 of the Act. The premises were found in poor sanitary condition, with waste and scrap material accumulated on the site. Workers were allegedly not wearing mandatory protective equipment such as caps, aprons and gloves and did not have the required medical fitness certificates.
Citing public health concerns and the alleged food safety violations, the AMC sealed the manufacturing unit with immediate effect.
