The Gujarat government has banned the production, transport and sale of unstandardised analogue (artificial) paneer, cheese and butter across the state, citing public health concerns.
The decision was taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, after inspections and laboratory tests found that several artificial dairy products failed to meet safety standards. Officials said the crackdown aims to prevent the sale of substandard fake dairy products that could pose health risks to consumers.
