An Air India flight operating from Phuket to Delhi encountered turbulence during its journey on Tuesday, causing a brief change in altitude and leaving a few passengers and crew members with injuries.
Seven passengers that encountered turbulence while travelling from Phuket to Delhi were admitted to Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj on Tuesday for medical evaluation and observation.
The passengers were taken to the hospital after Flight AI2379 experienced turbulence during its journey and landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Air India had alerted medical authorities in advance, enabling the hospital to prepare for their arrival.
According to Fortis Hospital, emergency teams assessed all seven passengers immediately upon arrival before initiating the required treatment. To manage the situation efficiently, the hospital activated a Code Yellow, its emergency response protocol for handling multiple patients simultaneously.
The injured passengers are undergoing diagnostic tests, including CT scans, MRI scans and X-rays wherever necessary. Doctors said they are being closely monitored, and the full extent of their injuries will be known after specialist evaluations are completed. A dedicated Air India support team is also present at the hospital to assist with patient care, documentation and coordination with family members.
Earlier in the day, Air India confirmed that Flight AI2379 encountered a brief turbulence-related event during the cruise phase, causing a temporary change in altitude. Despite the incident, the aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers and crew members were evacuated normally.
The airline maintained that no serious injuries have been reported. However, a small number of passengers and crew members sustained minor injuries and were referred for precautionary medical examination. Eyewitnesses at the airport reported seeing ambulances waiting outside the terminal, while some passengers were escorted in wheelchairs and others received first aid before being shifted to hospital.
One passenger described the turbulence as sudden and intense, claiming that several travellers were thrown from their seats, with some suffering injuries to their heads and backs. Air India said it is extending all necessary assistance to those affected and is cooperating with the relevant authorities as the incident is investigated.
