Residents will now have to dial 112 to report traffic-related complaints in Ahmedabad and across Gujarat, as the state police have integrated the existing traffic complaint system with the emergency helpline. The new arrangement came into effect on August 1.
Earlier, commuters were required to use the toll-free number 1800 233 1122 to report traffic issues. However, officials said the long number was difficult for the public to remember, prompting the decision to shift traffic complaints to the easier-to-recall 112 emergency helpline.
With the integration, citizens can now use a single number to report traffic congestion, violations and other traffic-related problems, in addition to emergencies already handled through the 112 system.
The 112 emergency helpline was initially introduced to provide quick access to police and medical emergency services. By bringing traffic complaints under the same platform, Gujarat Police aims to simplify public access to emergency and civic assistance while improving response time.
