The Centre has approved the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2A extension, paving the way for direct Metro connectivity to the city’s airport. The 6.03-km corridor, estimated to cost ₹2,169.04 crore, will connect Koteshwar Road with Ahmedabad airport through five new stations.
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs informed Parliament that Metro projects covering 382.62 km are currently under construction in nearly 20 cities, with a total investment of ₹1.59 lakh crore.
The new corridor will improve connectivity between Ahmedabad airport, Motera Stadium, Gandhinagar Sector-1 and GIFT City, while also adding new Metro stations within GIFT City.
Meanwhile, construction of the 40.35-km Surat Metro has reached its final stage. The Gujarat government said 81.1% of the project has been completed, with less than 20% of the work remaining, and expects the pace of construction to pick up before commissioning.
