Veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane on Thursday brought the curtain down on his international career, announcing his retirement from all formats of international cricket with immediate effect.
The 38-year-old made the announcement through a social media post, saying he believed it was the right time to step away from the international stage.
“Today, I feel the timing is right for me to move on and announce my retirement from international cricket and all formats,” Rahane wrote.
Rahane enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than a decade, representing India in 85 Test matches, 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is after making his international debut in 2013. Widely regarded for his calm temperament and dependable batting, he played several match-winning knocks across formats and was a key member of India’s Test side for many years.
His last appearance in Indian colours came during the Test series against the West Indies in 2023. Despite remaining active in domestic cricket, he was unable to regain his place in the national squad.
Even after falling out of contention for the Indian team, Rahane continued to contribute to domestic cricket, leading Mumbai until the conclusion of the 2024-25 season and mentoring young players with his vast experience.
With his retirement, Rahane ends an international journey marked by consistency, resilience and several memorable performances for India.
