The Supreme Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to restore 151 NEET Super Specialty (NEET SS) seats by July 29, 2026, and instructed the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to complete the counselling process within two weeks.Welcoming the ruling, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) urged the MCC to immediately resume NEET SS 2025 counselling and implement the court’s directions without further delay.
The association said thousands of aspiring specialist doctors have already faced months of uncertainty, and any additional delay could affect both their careers and patient care.Earlier, the MCC had postponed the Round 2 choice-filling process for NEET SS 2025 counselling.
Following the Supreme Court’s order, a revised counselling schedule is expected to be announced soon on the official MCC website.
NEET SS is the national entrance examination for admission to super-specialty medical programmes, including DM, MCh and DrNB courses offered by government, private, deemed and Armed Forces medical institutions across the country.
A total of 156 medical institutions, including public, private and Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) colleges, admit students through NEET SS to 2,447 Doctor of Medicine (DM) and Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) seats.
