Indian benchmark indices opened sharply higher on Monday after global markets rallied following signs of easing tensions between the US and Iran.
Investor sentiment improved after reports that US President Donald Trump had paused military action in favour of diplomatic efforts.The BSE Sensex surged more than 600 points at the opening, starting the session at 76,608 before climbing to 76,696.
The NSE Nifty opened at 23,928 and advanced to 23,964 in early trade. Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures market volatility, fell nearly 4% to around 13, indicating lower investor anxiety.Large-cap stocks led the rally, with IndiGo gaining 3.8%, Infosys rising 3.2%, Eternal up 2.9%, TCS advancing 2.4%, Bajaj Finance climbing 2.38%, and Asian Paints adding 2.54%. Other major gainers included Tech Mahindra, Trent, and Maruti.
The market’s positive momentum was also supported by a decline in crude oil prices, which dropped below $90 per barrel as geopolitical tensions eased. Lower oil prices are expected to reduce inflationary pressures. Global markets, including Japan, Hong Kong, the UK, and Gift Nifty, also traded firmly in the green, reflecting improved investor confidence.
