Gujarat is bracing for widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Ahmedabad and 20 other districts, along with the Union Territories of Diu-Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.Since Thursday, torrential rain has battered Valsad, Surat, Tapi and nearby regions.
Umargam in Valsad recorded over 35 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to severe waterlogging and flood-like conditions.
The IMD has also issued a nowcast warning for the next three hours, forecasting intense rainfall in several parts of the state.
The red alert covers Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Valsad, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Bharuch, besides the Union Territories of Diu-Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
