The Forest Department has clarified that reports of a leopard cub being spotted in Ahmedabad’s Shela area are false. Officials confirmed that the animal seen in a viral CCTV video was a domestic cat, not a leopard.
The confusion arose after a video recorded in Greenfield Society near Sharandeep Society went viral on social media. Residents on their morning walk claimed they had seen a leopard cub emerging from beneath a parked car, prompting concern in the area.
Following the viral video, teams from the Forest Department and Kankaria Zoo rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. However, after examining the footage, officials concluded that the animal was a cat and not a wild predator.
The clarification comes two days after a leopard was reportedly sighted in the same area, leading the Forest Department to intensify search operations. Despite continuous efforts, officials have not yet been able to trace the wild animal, and fear continues to persist among local residents.
