Travelling between Vadodara and Bharuch on the Mumbai–Delhi Expressway (NE-4 Bharatmala Highway) has become costlier, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) increasing toll charges by 5% from July 21.
The hike comes just three months after toll rates on the expressway were reduced by 20–30%, giving motorists only temporary relief.
The NE-4 Bharatmala Expressway, which connects Vadodara to Bharuch and now extends up to near Bardoli, has four toll plazas in Vadodara district—Dodka, Fajalpur, Samiyala and Sampa village in Karjan taluka.
Since March, motorists driving cars, jeeps and vans from Dodka, Samiyala and Fajalpur to Dahegam in Bharuch had been paying lower toll charges. However, with the revised rates now in effect, commuters will have to pay more.
The Mumbai–Delhi Expressway has witnessed a steady rise in traffic since it opened about two-and-a-half years ago. Initially, vehicles were allowed to use the highway free of charge, but toll collection began in October 2024, followed by subsequent revisions in toll rates.
