The Central government has made Aadhaar-based verification mandatory for vehicle ownership transfers and No Objection Certificate (NOC) services to make the process more secure, transparent and efficient. The new system has been implemented across the country, including Gujarat, from July 15, 2026.
Under the revised rules, vehicle owners must link their Aadhaar with the Transport Department portal before applying for ownership transfer or obtaining an NOC for transferring a vehicle to another state.
Applicants are required to enter their Aadhaar details on the transport portal. The ownership transfer will be processed online only after the Aadhaar information matches the official records.
If the Aadhaar details do not match the records, applicants will need to verify their identity using their driving licence. If discrepancies remain between the Registration Certificate (RC) and driving licence records, they must visit the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO) with the required Aadhaar documents to complete the verification.
According to the government, the new Aadhaar verification system will speed up vehicle ownership transfers, improve the accuracy of records, and help prevent fraud, identity misuse and unauthorised vehicle transfers.
