The Gujarat Police has stepped up efforts to make the internet safer for women and children through its month-long ‘Operation Surakshit Cyberspace’ campaign. In the first 14 days, police conducted 5,289 cyber awareness programmes across the state.
Launched under the guidance of the Gujarat government and led by Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik, the 28-day campaign focuses on educating women, girls, students, parents, teachers and the general public about online threats and digital safety.
CID Crime Women Cell Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ajay Chaudhary said protecting women and children in the digital space is a top priority. The awareness sessions aim to help people identify, prevent and respond to cyber threats.
The campaign covers issues such as sextortion, deepfakes, cyberstalking, online grooming, social media safety, gaming-related risks and other cybercrimes. Participants are also being taught safe online practices and responsible use of digital platforms.
During the first week, Gujarat Police organised 1,874 awareness programmes in schools and colleges while involving parents and teachers to improve digital safety at home and in educational institutions.
In the second week, the campaign expanded with 3,415 specialised sessions across various districts, focusing on deepfakes, social media misuse, online gaming risks and online grooming.
Police have also issued operational guidelines to officers for prompt action against cyber offences and increased public outreach. Citizens have been urged to report cybercrimes immediately by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 to help authorities act quickly and reduce financial or personal losses.
The month-long campaign aims to strengthen cyber awareness across Gujarat and create a safer online environment, especially for women and children.
