More than 200 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Chuda, Surendranagar district, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming stale food served at the school.
The incident began when around 100 girls complained of vomiting and stomach pain. Later, the number of affected students rose to over 200. Officials said the condition of all the students is currently stable.
According to preliminary information, the students were allegedly served stale food prepared the previous night, leading to suspected food poisoning. The incident has raised serious questions over food safety and the school’s management.
Following the incident, the district administration and the health department launched an emergency response. 108 ambulance services were placed on standby, and the affected students were shifted to Surendranagar, Chuda and Limbdi civil hospitals for treatment.
Health department teams have collected food samples and begun an investigation into the incident. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
