The Gujarat High Court is hearing the case of a Bachelor of Architecture student whose admission was cancelled after he had already completed six of the ten semesters of the course.
The student’s admission was revoked after authorities declared his Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate invalid.
Following the cancellation, the student approached the local Collector, who recommended that his admission should not be cancelled since he had already completed a major part of the course. However, during the hearing, Justice Niral R. Mehta questioned the Collector’s authority to intervene in professional college admissions after the EWS certificate had been cancelled.
The court observed that the Collector’s recommendation had no legal or statutory value once the EWS certificate was declared invalid.
The student’s lawyer requested the court to consider his admission on merit if a vacant seat is available.
The Gujarat High Court has adjourned the matter, and the next hearing is scheduled for next Friday.
