Following the Commerce Faculty’s move, the Faculty of Technology at Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) has also made classroom attendance compulsory for students.
Soon after taking charge as Dean, Prof. H.M. Patel issued a circular directing all departments to ensure that attendance is recorded in every class. Faculty members have been instructed to regularly maintain attendance records, share them with students from time to time, and submit them to the respective Heads of Departments.
While the circular does not specify any penalties for low attendance, faculty members say stricter rules may be introduced, including denying assignment submissions and restricting exam eligibility for students with attendance below 75%.The decision comes amid concerns over frequent absenteeism, especially during festival seasons.
With both the Commerce and Technology faculties now enforcing mandatory attendance, similar measures are expected to be adopted by other faculties at MSU in the coming days.
