The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has dismissed 13 bus drivers from its AMTS and BRTS services after surprise inspections found them guilty of traffic rule violations, rash driving and misbehaviour with passengers.
The action follows several complaints from commuters, who accused some drivers of being rude, skipping bus stops and driving dangerously, leading to accidents. Some drivers were also accused of operating buses under the influence of alcohol.
Among the dismissed drivers, 10 were from the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) and three were from the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
AMC officials said a special inspection drive was conducted throughout June to monitor drivers’ behaviour and ensure they followed traffic rules and safety standards. Surprise checks were carried out on buses across different routes in the city.
According to officials, the move aims to improve passenger safety and maintain the quality of Ahmedabad’s public transport services.
Drivers found violating traffic rules, failing to stop at designated bus stops, misbehaving with passengers or being involved in accidents were removed from service with immediate effect.
