A routine police training drill at the Police Headquarters in Shahibaug on Thursday (July 9) caused inconvenience after tear gas released during the exercise spread beyond the campus due to strong winds and reached the nearby Riverfront Road.
The tear gas smoke affected motorists and pedestrians passing through the area. Many people complained of eye irritation, watery eyes and breathing discomfort, forcing some to stop by the roadside to wash their eyes.
The reduced visibility and discomfort also caused some drivers to slow down or briefly stop their vehicles, disrupting traffic on Riverfront Road.
Police personnel quickly responded to the situation, managed the affected area and helped motorists move safely.
